LPG Alliance

Massage-based care

LPG Alliance is a treatment considered in line with the person's needs and expectations. At Kaya Clinique it is assessed with an understanding of technology-supported improvement in body contours, and with individual planning.

LPG Alliance is among the treatments whose name is heard often and whose mechanism is misunderstood just as often. Also known as endermologie, it is a mechanotherapy technique — that is, it works through mechanical stimulation. The sections below set out what can be expected, where the evidence stands, and when it is not carried out.

What is LPG Alliance and how does it work?

LPG endermologie is carried out with motorised rollers and controlled vacuum. As the handpiece contacts the skin it grips the tissue, lifts it and kneads it rhythmically. The aim is to stimulate skin and connective tissue mechanically and to support circulation and lymphatic flow.

The method has a documented history: it is known as the first device cleared by the FDA for the appearance of cellulite, in 1999. That shows long-standing use; it is not in itself proof of efficacy.

The most important distinction here is this: LPG is a massage and mechanotherapy method. No mechanical claim is made that it burns or dissolves fat. What it does is stimulate tissue and support circulation.

How many LPG Alliance sessions are needed?

This treatment is not left at a single session; it has a defined course structure.

01

Assessment

The condition of the region, any tendency to oedema and the expectation are assessed at examination, and suitability is established here.

02

One to two sessions a week

Session frequency is usually planned within this range. Keeping to the schedule matters for the integrity of the course.

03

Ten to fifteen sessions and above

The typical course falls in this range. The number varies with the region, the starting condition and the response.

04

Maintenance period

Once the course is complete, maintenance sessions come up to preserve the appearance achieved.

The length of the course follows from the nature of the method. Mechanical stimulation builds on a cumulative effect; expecting a marked difference within a few sessions is not a realistic expectation.

Does LPG Alliance affect the appearance of cellulite?

An honest answer here means presenting the evidence as it stands, because it does not point in one direction.

Some studies have reported significant improvement in the grade of cellulite. In one study, however, marked visual improvement was observed in only a small proportion of participants. Reductions in circumference measurements are reported more widely.

For that reason the claim is kept at the level of support to appearance. Saying that studies have reported results at differing levels is both accurate and the only way to set the expectation in the right place. A promise of a definitive result matches neither the evidence nor the regulation.

What is reported

A reduction in the appearance of oedema and fluid retention, and a temporary sense of firmness in the tissue.

The limit of the evidence

Results differ in level between studies; there is no single picture of certainty.

The claim not made

Weight loss or fat burning is not the subject of this method.

Supportive use

It may come up as supportive in post-surgical oedema management on a physician's recommendation.

What does the session feel like?

The tissue being gripped and kneaded is felt during the session. Most people find it relaxing; the sensation of pressure varies with the region and the device setting.

The side-effect profile is low. Temporary redness is usual and slight bruising is reported rarely. No recovery period is required and daily routine resumes the same day.

What is advised after a session?

Keeping up fluid intake and staying active are among the general recommendations. The reason is that the treatment is directed at supporting lymphatic flow; inactivity limits that support.

Who is LPG Alliance not suitable for?

Suitability is determined at examination, though some headings are known in advance.

May be considered
  • People troubled by the appearance of oedema and fluid retention.
  • Those whose expectation is support to appearance rather than weight loss.
  • Those able to sustain a long course consistently.
Not carried out, or requires physician assessment
  • Not applied to the abdomen during pregnancy.
  • Deferred where there is active infection.
  • Advanced varicose veins and anticoagulant use require physician assessment.
Where the expectation is a reduction in the regional fat layer, this method does not answer it; the heading discussed there is cryolipolysis. Where excess skin is present the subject moves into surgery and abdominoplasty is assessed.

How does LPG Alliance differ from G5 massage?

Both are mechanical treatments, but they work on tissue differently.

LPG grips and kneads tissue with motorised rollers and vacuum. G5 massage applies rhythmic vibration and percussion; the tissue is not gripped, and vibration is delivered from the surface. The two may therefore come up in the same session or at different stages of the same plan.

Which is applied and in what order is decided by the physician according to the region and the expectation. Neither is a more advanced version of the other; they offer different mechanical stimuli.

The sentence that sets the expectation correctly here is this: what is being sought is not weight loss but tissue that feels more comfortable in itself.

How is the result preserved?

Maintenance sessions are planned after the course. Their frequency follows the individual and the response of the region rather than a fixed calendar.

Nutrition, fluid intake and activity directly affect how long the result holds. This treatment rests on that foundation; without it, the appearance achieved recedes more quickly.

LPG endermologie is a technique of mechanical skin and connective tissue stimulation and lymphatic drainage massage carried out with motorised rollers and controlled vacuum; it is a massage and mechanotherapy method and carries no claim of burning fat. The typical protocol runs to one to two sessions a week, ten to fifteen sessions and above in total, followed by maintenance. The evidence does not point in one direction: some studies have reported significant improvement in the grade of cellulite, while in one study marked visual improvement was observed in only a small proportion of participants; reductions in circumference measurements are reported more widely. Side effects are minimal: temporary redness and, rarely, slight bruising. It is not applied to the abdomen during pregnancy; active infection, advanced varicose veins and anticoagulant use require physician assessment. This is not a weight-loss method.
